About the event
Naomi Extra is a poet, writer and doctoral candidate in American Studies at Rutgers University-Newark. In both her creative and scholarly work she explores themes of agency and pleasure in the lives of black women and girls. Naomi has been awarded fellowships by Cave Canem, Poetry Incubator, the African American Intellectual History Society and Imagining America. Her writing has appeared in Broadly, Apogee Journal, "The BreakBeat Poets Vol. 2: Black Girl Magic" (Haymarket Books, 2018), The Rumpus and elsewhere.
Stephanie Jean is a Cave Canem fellow and a member of the NYFA Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program. Her poems have appeared in the Journal of Poetics Research. She also runs The Nomads – a literary series where writers are invited to read in their native tongue and in English.
Karisma Price is a Cave Canem fellow and 2018 Best of the Net Nominee. Born and raised in New Orleans, LA, she holds a BA in creative writing from Columbia University and is currently an MFA candidate in poetry at New York University where she is a Public Schools Fellow. Her work has appeared in Four Way Review, Narrative Magazine, Wildness, Glass, Cotton Xenomorph, and elsewhere. In 2018, Karisma was named one of the writers on Narrative Magazine’s “30 Below 30” list of new and emerging authors. Karisma lives in Brooklyn and is a reader for Winter Tangerine. Along with Kwame Opoku-Duku III, she is a founding member of the Unbnd Collective.
